Winterize Your Misting System

It is definitely NOT cold here in Southern California; in fact, we here at Advanced Misting Systems are still breaking 100° everyday. That doesn’t mean we are unaware that elsewhere temps are dropping, and cooler weather is settling in. If you have a misting system at your home or on your business patio, you need to get it ready for winter to prolong its life and avoid unnecessary repairs.

Misting.System.PartsThere is very little that has to be done to “winterize” a misting system. The first step is to remove and clean all of the nozzles. You can use nozzle cleaning solution or you can just soak them in a 50/50 solution of warm water and white vinegar. Rinse them and re-install them into the misting line.

Next, and most importantly, you need to remove the filter housing and empty all residual water from the chamber. This is the most likely place for damage to your misting system. Water in there will freeze, which causes expansion, which then cracks the housing. While you have the housing removed, take a look at the filter element. If it is brown or deteriorating in any way, it’s time to replace it.

After replacing the filter element (if necessary) screw the housing back onto the pump, and you are all ready for the winter.
